Hot on the heels of the 2023 Met Gala is the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 16 to 27 at the iconic and world-renowned Palais des Festivals on the French Riviera. With the first few days already proving to be a spectacle for both film and fashion, from Johnny Depp’s red-carpet comeback to Carys Zeta Douglas, the daughter of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, arriving on the scene, fans are already anticipating to see what the event will bring next.
We take a look at the Asian celebrities who took over the red carpet during this year’s Cannes Film Festival with their stunning ensembles.
1. Fan Bingbing
In one of her best red carpet fashion moments at the Cannes Film Festival this year so far, Fan Bingbing wore a stunning strapless ball gown designed by Christopher Bu at the Jeanne du Barry premiere.
2. Blackpink’s Rosé
Rosé from Blackpink fame made her debut at Cannes Film Festival 2023, becoming the Asian star who has attended this prestigious event. Keeping her debut look classic and minimal, she wore a Saint Laurent black gown with Tiffany & Co. jewels.
3. Gemma Chan
Rarely putting a fashion foot wrong, red carpet darling Gemma Chan from Marvel’s Eternals and Crazy Rich Asians looked like a goddess in a Louis Vuitton white high-neck gown with a floor-length cape adorned in sequins for her first look at this year’s Cannes.
Making our best-dressed list for this week twice, Gemma Chan looked red hot on the red carpet for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’s Cannes premiere. The red silk partially backless and sleeveless dress from LV showed off her incredible abs thanks to the asymmetric knotted bodice.
4. Soo Joo Park
The screening of Monster saw the Asian glitterati ascend the red carpet, with Park wearing a stunning Saint Laurent flapper-esque style dress lined with shining black sequins.
5. Gong Li
Gong Li attended the Jeanne du Barry screening and opening ceremony red carpet at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in a gown from Alaïa, which saw the bottom of the outfit cascade around the actress in a swathe of textured black material. But the real star of the outfit was her silver Jimmy Choo fringe clutch, which we are adding to our must-have “It” bag list!
6. Zhang Yuqi
Chinese actress Zhang Yuqi wowed the red carpet onlookers and foreign press at the red carpet of Monster. Her daring white gown was delicately constructed with a focus on the statement shoulders. The dress was more art than fashion and taking a risk definitely paid off.
7. Gao Ye
Chinese actress Gao Ye debuted this ethereal princess look at the Monster premiere red carpet. Looking like a vision in this custom-made satin emerald green floor-length gown, she completed the ensemble with a stacked diamond choker.
8. Sakura Ando
Japanese actress Sakura Ando is known for her quirky and offbeat fashion style. Keeping true to her personal aesthetic, Ando skipped a figure-hugging gown for her appearance. Instead, she wore a beautiful Chanel free-flowing white dress with silver satin detailing and a tassel at the front for the premiere of Monster.
